Sure it hits hard, but some people don't seem to wake up until you hit them between the eyes with a 2X4. Adopt a friend, don't buy and fund the puppy mills.
I am seemingly a collection of differences; a mountain man living on the plains, a small town boy living in the city, and a simple soul working in a high-tech environment. I love being outside, but work inside, quick to cry at a Kodak commercial, but with a military background. But most of all, I am the father of a wonderful boy with Cerebral Palsy.
That was a very sad and effective ad. And on top of that message, I'd add, "Don't buy pets as Christmas presents". Wait until after the New Year and then go to a shelter and adopt. - G

ReplyDeleteFuckin A.
ReplyDeleteTalk about graphic. I mean I do dog rescue (I get them from the pound then give them to a good home) but fuck. I wouldn't want my three year old to see that.
I can't deal with this today, we're going to see my MIL at hospice. So, I didn't watch the video, but I do congratulate you for putting it up. If more people spoke up, maybe things would change.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteWow. That is intense. My kitten was from a shelter and he's the cutest little brat you ever want to meet. When I was a kid, my mom never let us get a pet unless it was from a shelter.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - get them spayed and neutered as well.
I bought a cat from a breeder once. Had to. We were living in the UK and needed (NEEDED - long story) a companion for the barn-cat kitten we had. There were no more 'free kittens' to be found anywhere. I called the local shelter, and they refused to adopt to us because we were foreign military. Treated us as if we were the sole responsibility for the existence of the RSPCA and completely evil. Bastards. So I met a lady who raised Siamese show cats, visited her home, met the mama cat, and after meeting her strict (but much nicer) approval, adopted/bought a kitten. There are some valid reasons for buying from a reputable(!) breeder, but in general, yes, adoption from a shelter should be the very first choice. Or, as we did most recently (after our UK cats died of old age), we adopted a litter of feral kittens found under a bush in our garden.
ReplyDeleteonly from a shelter......... every dog and cat i have ever had has been from a shelter - and all of them have been special
ReplyDeleteps- - i cannot watch the ad
The black bag hanging out the car window is kind of funny. I know, I'm sick...Good message though.
