There's a special place in hell for these assholes

Yesterday I caught just the ending of this story on the news at night so I went looking for the story today. I found a couple accounts of the story here and here.

The gist of the story is that some lowlifes posted JavaScript code and flashing computer animation on an epilepsy site with the aim of triggering migraines and seizures in users. This is being called the first first computer attack to inflict physical harm on the victims, and affected RyAnne Fultz, a 33-year-old woman who suffers from pattern-sensitive epilepsy. says she clicked on a forum post with a legitimate-sounding title on Sunday. Her browser window resized to fill her screen, which was then taken over by a pattern of squares rapidly flashing in different colors.

Fultz says she "locked up."

"I don't fall over and convulse, but it hurts," says Fultz, an IT worker in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. "I was on the phone when it happened, and I couldn't move and couldn't speak."

After about 10 seconds, Fultz's 11-year-old son came over and drew her gaze away from the computer, then killed the browser process, she says.

There is a bit more in the two articles, but what it was meant to do was cause people who are already sensitive to pattern seizures to have an episode.

This probably sounds like great fun to some pimply faced geeky ass-hat sitting in mommas basement with nothing better to do, but those nerds have never seen a full fledged Grand Mal seizure.

I have seen too many of them.

Skylers seizures are brought on by stress, usually too much sensory input and have been caused by pain. If we are lucky, it is an absense seizure, where he just checks out for a few minutes. He can come back from those pretty quick, and not suffer any lasting effect.

When it is a Grand Mal, it starts with him clicking his tongue, then progresses to involuntary rhythmic movement. His head twitches to the side at the same time his eyes are rapidly going back and forth. He gets really hot and sweaty, because the body is working quite hard and he is overheating. Signals in his brain are telling his whole body to do different things, and the body is attempting to respond to all of them.

About 5-7 minutes into this he starts to throw up, usually until the stomach is empty. Then he dry heaves. If this isn't enough he looses what limited control he has over his bladder and bowels.

Are we having a real good time yet you worthless piece of shit hackers?

Now comes the hilarious part. If w can't talk him down pretty soon, his brain will start to fry. It just can't take all of this, and something has to give. We administer Valium suppositories that we carry everywhere we go. This has worked all but one time, where we get an ambulance ride to the ER to administer IV drugs.

If the ambulance ride is too long, or they can't get an IV started quickly, guess what?

The kid dies.

I wish for 5 minutes in the same room with you dickheads.

  3. I read something about that yesterday, but I missed the part about it being a calculated attack on that particular site. That's just sick.

  4. oooh, ooohh, can we tie them down and give them potassium or something to completely fuck THEIR neural network up for about 10 minutes and THEN kick them in the heads with steel-toed boots??

Dances with Broccoli has had about 3-4 absante and petite mal seizures and it scared hell outta us. He's had a history of night terrors and THAT is 'nuff to exhaust all parties involved. to INTENTIONALLY invoke anything even NEAR this sort of experience makes me completely rethink th' death penalty...

  7. I can't read past the third paragraph, I'm so disgusted and angry. I don't understand how someone can get giggles by being this cruel. Maybe sitting behind a monitor all days keeps them from feeling things? How disgusting.

  8. SD do you know anything more about "Circumstantial evidence suggests the attack was the work of members of Anonymous, an informal collective of griefers best known for their recent war on the Church of Scientology"
What are or who are griefers?

  9. Thanks for letting me vent everyone, this is beyond despicable.

Cheer, I don't know what griefers are or know about a group like them.

  10. I don't want to mess up their neural nets. I want to beat them with baseball bats until they have no recognizable form. Scum like this have no right to live.

  11. That is so despicable. I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible is caught and prosecuted vigorously for both illegal hacking and for assault.

  13. Good Lord, what is happening to us? I just read on another buddy's blog that teens in Philly run in groups on the train stations there with the express purpose of trying to knock people out with just one hit to the head. I guess it's a contest... They killed a man that way last week. And now THIS?
