What? Another Video?!?

Well, yeah, but this is really cool.  I received this from one of my workout friends from the gym, and wanted to share it.  Here is the story that came with it:

Here's a link to a Shell commercial shown in Europe. Ostensibly they're selling gasoline, but the Ferrari's used in the video steal the show.

Ferrari pulled several of their race-cars from various ages out of storage, flew them around the world, and filmed them running through the streets of Rome, Rio, New York, Hong Kong and Monaco. No CGI -these are the original cars on the original streets.

The best part is the sound - from the basso-profundo notes of the early,front-engine era, each scene cuts to a later and later generation, ending with the banshee-wail of a modern F1 car.

The sounds alone bring a tear to the eye. Even if you're not a gearhead, this video will stir the soul.

There's just something about 3 litres and 14,000 RPM !

  1. Holy crap! I'd like to have seen that in person, that was insane. Plus I've driven through the riviera in Monaco in a regular car and that was bad enough.

One thing though. They fueled up in Italy? What the hell? You need to hand over your first born for a gallon of gas there, it's so damn expensive. :)

That's a lot of roads they had to close. I wonder how they pulled that off in NYC...

I love the part where it explodes out of the tunnel with a VROOOOOOM. Almost made me whimper like when fighter planes do flyovers.

  6. Shouldn't he have been wearing the same / similar helmet all the way thru?

And it would have been cool if he'd thrown shome change into the toll booth.

    But still liked it.

  9. That does bring back some memories for me. I loved watching racing on tv when I was a kid; it's hard to believe I could watch the Indy 500 from beginning to end and be fascinated by it. The era of Mario Andretti and Al Unser.

Did you notice the ad with the knuckle tattoos about a third of the way in?

I loved that first car, the very definition of jaunty.

Oh, and NASCAR fans, that's how you do racing.

  11. Fantastic. The almost human scream of an F-1 whipping through the chicane at Monte Carlo will always give me goose bumps.
