The National Anthem

I just now received this from one of my buddies, had to pass it on. I am trying not to sound like an old codger here, but this is how the National Anthem is supposed to sound, not all jazzed up like some people seem to think they need to perform it...

Texas Tech University Basketball game, Feb 9th, National Anthem sung by 5 young ladies. Home video quality, sorry about that.

  1. I remember that during the 80's, when war was NOT fashionable, there was a movement afoot to have the Anthem changed to "America the Beautiful"-- less emphasis on bombs bursting in air and all that stuff.

Still, I agree: the anthem should be simple and tuneful (or as tuneful as we can make it), it's not for showboating. If you wanna show off your ability to hit th' hi' notes and arpeggios, then sing old Paula Abdul songs.

  3. Thanks Chris!

Captain: I would change to America the beautiful, I think it says a lot, and it was written right around here!

  4. That was beautiful. Though I do like Jimmi Hendrixs jazzed up version.

  8. I agree with you about loving the straightforward versions of the anthem. I liked this.

Unfortunately, since this WAS in Texas, I couldn't help but wonder how many horrible pageants these fine young girls had been entered into by their stage moms.
