Carpet Maintenance

Today we have the crack team of Chem-Dri carpet cleaners at our house to perform the annual maintenance of the carpet.  We are having the dog hair rotated and spills re-aligned...

Actually, these folks are really good.  It is a husband and wife team that come in and work their ass off, and they use a system that cleans very well without leaving it soaking wet for days.  They were recommended to us a long time ago by some friends, and we have passed on their names to several other folks.

After all the cleaning is done, they even go around the house backing out of each room after raking the carpet.  Yes, you heard that right, they rake the damn carpet!!  You don't even want to walk on it and leave footprints after they leave.

They only bad thing is that this means Sky-Dad has to move everything up off the floor.  And we live a lifestyle with Skyler that means we have a whole lot of stuff laying around, his changing table, Hoyer lift, wheeling devices of all kinds.  And all of that has to go someplace else, and in this case, that means the garage...

One great big plant didn't survive the move out to the garage.  They clay pot had cracked without me knowing, and as I carried it from our bedroom to the garage it crumbled in my hands.  So that was a major clean up and re-pot exercise.

  1. I envy your tidy garage, sir.

I knew I was in trouble when my wife walked in and said, "Oh, look, there's plenty of room to store stuff out here!"

    *le sigh*

  2. You're a good man Chris. When I bought my house, it had old carpets and I was overjoyed. Vacuuming is as good as it gets around here.

  3. You and I are on the same wavelength today. I'm not getting my carpets cleaned, rather I'm getting new carpet installed.

And that meant that everything from two bedrooms and a living room went into the laundry room.

    I'm drained.

  4. Too bad the cleaning company doesn't move the furniture out to the garage too, huh? Wouldn't that rock? On the bright side though, you can probably skip your workout today. :-)

  5. Last time they cleaned the carpets of my apt. I had to move furniture out onto the patio and hang out outside most of the afternoon. Luckily it was a nice comfy day and my neighbor and I drank a few beers out there. haha

  6. We had our carpets cleaned a few months ago. Luckily, the kitchen is large and my netbook was working. The brothers did all the heavy (furniture) lifting.

"We are having the dog hair rotated and spills re-aligned..." LOL, that line cracked me up! I should hire these guys. I tried doing the carpets myself this weekend with a little Bissel machine. Yeah, I don't recommend it unless you want your high traffic areas to have white stripes running through them. It looks like we have a zebra skin splayed out in front of the fireplace right now. - G

  8. My parents used to do carpet cleaning using a "dry foam extraction" method.

I have done the carpet raking bit.

And that's not a euphamism for anything, either.

  11. I have hardwood floors. In the Winter they feel a little chilly, but they are so much easier to maintain.
