Anyone remember the days of TV theme songs and Intros?
While sitting around having a few brews a bunch of us were looking at a TV in the bar, and it switched from one show to the other. One of the folks mentioned that it has become so common place these days to just go from one program to the other, usually with the credits rolling on the side as the next show starts.
This spawned a whole discussion of TV theme songs, and how all of the shows used to have them. There was always a great theme song, and an opening montage of sorts.
So we were all calling out our favorite ones, and a lot of classics were mentioned.
I said my favorite was the old opening to Hawaii Five O, great classic song and the pipeline running in the background:
Some others mentioned:
Sanford and Son - Great bass lines...
MASH - few people know the theme song was about suicide, because you never heard the words except for in the original movie.
Magnum PI - Thomas Magnum pealing out in the Ferrari, best eyebrow wiggle on TV.
Rockford files - Great show!
Mod Squad - Running down a sewer and meeting up to go fight crime???
And being a Trekie, I can't leave out the opening to Star Trek. Guessing where the Enterprise was going to appear in the star field was a litmus test for how well the nights indulging was going!
So, what are some of your favorites?

I'm guessing Mrs. SD Isn't home yet. Get your sorry ass out of the bar and home where it belongs. How many did you have, anyway????
ReplyDeleteI wandered over from Orange's blog...
ReplyDeleteLet's see my favorites that you haven't already named were Miami Vice...
The Love Boat...
Quantum Leap...
That's all I can think of at the moment.
Did you know there are words to the Star Trek theme?!
ReplyDeleteI think my all time favorite is Archie and Edith singing off key "Those were the Days"
ReplyDeleteDear Conscience, not that it's any of your business, but Mrs SD IS home. I get time to myself every now and then.
ReplyDeleteRaven: Thanks for dropping by! BO has a great blog, and I will admit I still remember most of the words to Love Boat.
GKL: I had no clue, does Shatner sing them?
Sis: Mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again!
The theme song to Ponderosa. Hoss was my favorite cowboy. All chubby with that cute lisp.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see a beater I hear the "Sanford and Son" theme in my head.
ReplyDeleteOh don't be such a crab.
ReplyDeleteGlad you get some time for you. Enjoy.
Andy Griffith, o.k.? The whistle was fun.
...a three hour tour, a three hour tour...
ReplyDeleteBTW, the MASH song was about Painless the dentist's faked suicide:
...But suicide is Painless...
"Suicide is Painless" was performed by Loudon Wainwright III. He is even in some of the old episodes of MASH. He played Captain Spalding. As in Groucho Marx Captain Spalding, yes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know ALL THE WORDS to the Star Trek theme. I memorized them when I was a kid and I still know them. Do I win some kind of geek prize?
Vikki, I bow before your wicked geekness!
ReplyDeleteThe Muppet Show, all time best ever. I also fondly recall The Greatest American Hero.
