Skylers Video Resume - updated

Hi there again, thank you all so very much for the kind words. It really does mean a lot.
I had some people comment and email off the blog that they couldn't get the video to work. I put it up on YouTube at this link, or copy paste the below.

Take care,
Chris

There are some wonderful people that have come into our lives as a result of having Skyler, and a couple of them we have met lately have come up with a wonderful idea. Katie and Andrew have started interviewing kids like Skyler, their family, friends, anybody who knows them and has been an influence in their lives. Then they take all of these interviews and focus on what the kid can do, distilling it down into a video resume.

They did one for Skyler that I think turned out very well, and I wanted to share it will all of you.
Let me describe the people in the video so you know who they are:
  • First person is Kathy, my wife and Skyler's mom.
  • Next guy with short black hair and soul patch is his speech therapist/technology guy, Brian.
  • Next person is Mindy, his Physical therapist with the long black hair.
  • Then comes Jenni, in the green top, who is his music therapist.
  • The guy with the glasses sitting in the office is Kevin, our old grade school principle and friend.
  • The guy up on the roof is Tom Mustin, the morning anchor for the CBS affiliate channel 4 news.
  • The guy with the ball-cap is Lonnie, his boss at Bayaud Industry
  • Of course Sky Dad makes an appearance or two...

  3. Skyler is truly AMAZING!! I don't know if I told you this yet or not, but my daughter was so very, very impressed with Skyler when we met you in the airport. I know she was quiet the entire time, but I swear she hasn't stopped talking about Skyler since. He kept getting his computer (can't remember the real word for it, sorry) to say "Let's go" and things like that because he found our blog talk utterly boring, remember?! Hee hee hee! That's a kid for ya! That utterly delighted me, but it delighted my 12 year old even more!!

This video is spectacular!! And I certainly hope Skyler gets that video editing job he wants because I know he'll be FANTASTIC at it!

  7. Bloody good idea, the video resume.

5 mins and you've got the CV, the references and an idea of what the potential candidate is really like.

Best of luck to Skyler. Hope he gets the job he wants.

The bearded bloke seems to be trying to steal the limelight a bit, but luckily it doesn't take away from the general thrust of the vid!

  11. Fantastic! Skyler, I wish we lived closer. I would hire you to teach my son Eric how to use a Dynavox.

  12. You should be very, very proud. Your buddies did a wonderful job on the video and you have one heckuva boy there!

Just two questions. Who is the lady in the picture taped to his keyboard?

    &

Could you put captions under these people that give their name or title, because I'm sure most of these folks have degrees and letters after their name, and in a resume it never hurts to call in the "experts" or "celebrities".

I hope this lands him his dream job, cause you know what he is going to be blowing his paychecks on don't you? A new computer and trickin' out the van!

Interesting idea, a video resume. It highlights Skyler's skills, and gives the viewer a real sense of the strong support network he's got around him.
