Just call me Doctor SkyDad

Yesterday we took Skyler back to Childrens Hospital for a re-check of the G-Tube that was placed in his stomach last June. The doctor said she thought he looked like he had a fuller face since last time she saw him, and the additional feedings are doing their job. He has put on 11 pounds, well on our way to the mandatory 15 pounds before his spine surgery in November. She said that the original one was probably a little small now and that we should put in a larger size since he has put on weight. Then she looked at me and asked if I wanted to do it!

I said sure, cause I like gross stuff like that. It really is a pretty simple procedure. You deflate the ball inside the stomach that holds the tube in place, pull out the old one, clean up the area, stick in the new one, inflate the ball again.

Presto-chango, new feeding tube in place!

  1. grind up some o' them Big Macs and I jest betcha' that boy will do some balloonin' hisself!!

That DOES sound gross, though... Actually, outta' curiosity, how long does it take something like that to heal? I mean, that's gotta hurt like a mother when it's first done. Or does Skyy have sensory integration disorders and it's no big?

  2. perhaps you can get a 2nd job doing home health care? That pays pretty well, I hear...

That's cool that all is going well. I like to hear that stuff...

  3. Lemon: Skyler took a couple of weeks to heal from the initial surgery. And Skyler has sensory integration disorder, but does feel pain. He is a pretty tough kid, it takes a lot for him to complain about pain.

Ghost: Most of the home health care folks I talk to tell me the parent company makes a lot of money while the workers barely get by. Isn't America wonderful?

  6. You know, that's probably true. Typical: the few folks at the top of the pyramid get all the goodies while those folks down at the bottom (the millions of them actually DOING the work) get diddly.

And in the case of nursing, they also get SHIT and diddly...

  7. You're brave. The sight of blood or any incision makes me ill. I could never be a doctor.

  8. Ghost: That is so true, nothing like a little shit mixed in with your diddy, eh? :^)

Grant: You are the brave one to admit to one slight fault. And here we all thought you were perfect...

I could take care of the most dire medical situations with my own kid, except for pulling out loose teeth. That just squicks me out. Trailside appendectomy? Sure! Wiggly molar.... ewww.

  10. Thats funny Kirby! :^) I love the gore, I kept standing up to see better at my wifes C-section, and they kept telling me to sit down. Probably thought I was was going to hurl.
