The man is always trying to keep the Beavers down
I wrote about the field beside our house awhile back. A couple of day ago on our dog walk we found that someone had come through with a backhoe and ripped apart the Beaver dam, and wrecked their house. I suppose that some Government entity decided that they were chewing up too many valuable sticks and Cottonwood trees and decided to step in.
Probably didn't even give the poor Beavers a chance to get out of the den before they ripped things apart. It's pretty sad...

It is sad, until you remember the National Geographic special, "Beavers: the Hitlers of Nature." F-ing jerks.
ReplyDeleteI imagine the backhoe driver needed a cigarette after breaking down that beaver... damn.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI Beavers usually have a bolt hole in the bottom. The first good shake or noise and they would have fled. Poor little things are homeless now...but I'm sure they are alive.
ReplyDeleteYou said, "Back Ho." That's what we call the girl that plays awesome defense.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Beavers rebuild in the exact same place - only bigger and better.
That's heartless. Hope they can rebuild.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, they will, I'm sho. Maybe they're really like the Doozers in Fraggle Rock: not truely happy unless they're building something. Although this is a helluva time to knock a damn. Besides, ain't the water froz @ this time in yo' neck o' th' woods??

ReplyDeleteNot to worry. The government
ReplyDeleteagencies have strict protocol. First they send three eviction notices, via certified mail.
Then, if the mail is refused they send someone to post a notice on the den.
In some cases they even offer assistance.
It's really a good program, just misunderstood.
Well there you go. The beavers were adequately notified. It's their own dam (okay, damn) fault.
ReplyDeleteOh sure, you tell us this horrible story just when I saw a video this week of beavers holding hands as they floated on water. So cute!
Poor Beavers. I hope FEMA will provide them with a nice trailer and food stamps.
ReplyDeletethat's sad

The bastards! They killed Kenny! In the people's republic of Boulder, there would have been an environmental impact statement.
ReplyDeleteIt was probably someone from downstream who was pissed that his creek had dried up.
ReplyDeleteWhen beavers make a dam, they alter the environment in such a way that it ultimately makes it unsuitable to sustain them. Someone once told me that they're the only animal besides man that does that. I'm not sure I buy that, but it is interesting to think about.
