You got it, Red!
"I live by this credo: Have a little laugh at life and look around you for happiness instead of sadness. Laughter has always brought me out of unhappy situations. Even in your darkest moment, you usually can find something to laugh about if you try hard enough." -- Red Skelton
Absolute truth.
ReplyDeleteMy buddy NORTON! and I were lucky in that we discovered Mr. S. back in high school (we were prolly the only ones, too!!) So we've had a longer period of time to enjoy him and his acting than our peers, thereby making us better peoples.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you can't find something funny in the dark to laugh about, turn on a light! -- Dale
ReplyDeleteRed definitely had it right. He must have really walked the walk too because, in this day of tell-all books and tearing down icons, I have never heard a bad word about him.
ReplyDeleteA-freakin-men!
ReplyDeleteI laugh at Red Skelton's clown art. Does that make me a bad person?
ReplyDeleteClem Kadiddlehopper. Enough said.

In 1981, my parents came down for Parents' Weekend at Eastern Illinois University. We went together to see Red Skelton, and had a really good time.
ReplyDeleteThe next day, we went to the Holiday Inn in town to have brunch and ran into Mr. Skelton-- we said hello and had a brief chat. He was gracious and friendly.
I wish they'd also come down a couple years later, when Tony Bennett performed. By then, though, they'd moved to California.
And I know what you're thinking, smartass. They did leave a forwarding address.
