As a lot of you probably know, once you purchase something on CafePress, you start getting a lot of email. They often try to figure out what you would be interested in based on past purchases, and I always get an email with their latest funny/quirky shirts. This is one of the latest, and one that I shall certainly be ordering.

    I almost bought my teacher friend Paul Nudd a t-shirt I saw in Berkeley, also with a Bukowski quote: "It's not that I don't like people; it's just that I'm a lot happier when they're not around..."

    The only thing I bought from Cafe Press is a Bald is Beautiful shirt for my sister, since she was going to go through chemo. I don't remember a lot of emails though.

    And she never went bald. Go figure.

Random thoughts from a well-medicated brain

I haven't done any serious posts in quite sometime now.  Mostly because I have been in a serious rut, and just haven't felt it.  But I think the main reason has been the low level (and sometimes high level) of pain that I have been in.  Those of you who know me on Facebook know that I have been having a lot of troubles with my back lately.  The pain has been intense and I have not been able to help take care of Skyler.  This next Thursday the 27th I will be getting a series of 4 shots into the L4-L5 and L5-S1 vertebra to see if that can give me any relief.  I certainly hope it does, because I can't live my life on muscle relaxers and narcotic pain killers. Let me rephrase that... I would love to live my life on narcotic pain killers.  But I can't, because on occasion I need to think and shit like that...   For those of you into the mechanics of the back, the red arrow shows the lack of a disk between L4-L5, and the two blue arrows show the disks that are bulg

Goodbye old friend. Hootie: 1997-2009

I'll never forget the day I first saw him. We were driving home from Golden and Kathy said "Why don't you go this way?" We headed down a street I had never been on and found ourselves driving by a little strip mall. Then Kathy says "Turn in here a minute." Now my spidey senses are on alert, and sure enough, we wind up parking in front of a pet store. Kathy had been out in Golden a couple of days before and had found Hootie sitting in a cage looking so lonely. When we walked in, there was a sad little puppy up high in his own cage, with a sign that had 2 different prices crossed out and the third was pretty low. He had been taken and then returned to the pet store. I knew right then that we were heading home with another dog, I had been suckered! I still wasn't quite over the loss of our Golden Retriever, but I never do seem to get over the loss of a pet.
