I have been a bad blogger, I forgot to acknowledge an award I got. Go ahead and boo and throw things, I deserve it... OK, who threw the rock? That hurt you motherfu... Anywhodles, Cora from Love letter by Cora gave me this sweet award:


The Stripper Award! Ain't it just grand? So I am supposed to list 7 personality traits from my blog. So here we go:

1. I surf the Internettubes just a tad...
Yeah, I find a whole lot of crap out there, and if you combine it with #2:

2. I have a whole lot of great online friends.
Put that together with #1 and you get a guy who processes about 70-90 emails a day plus visits a bunch of funny vid sites, and you get the bulk of my blog in this little corner of the universe.

3. I have a quirky sense of humor.
Evidenced by the amount of odd videos!

4. I can be serious though...
When I have something important to talk about, such as disability rights or my son.

5. I think I am a fairly decent dad.
At least some of you have commented about that, and I thank you for that.

6. I cry easily.
I admit that all the time, from smarmy commercials to Kodak moments. My emotions are always running close to the surface.

7. I am a space geek!
Need I say more? From the US space program to all the Trek references, I guess I belong at a convention wearing ears for gods sake...

    Uh, yeah-- you pretty much set the standard.

    And don't ever change-- especially the quirky sense of humor and the space geek thing. It's what bonds us.

    Awww, I'm sorry I didn't get over here sooner to see this!! Planning a wedding AND a cross-country move AND a child-relocation court war is kinda time consuming, much to my surprise. Sorry, I'm only just now catching up.

Repost: Everyone uses the word, what's your problem

This is from 2009, but I wanted to re-post it because today is "Spread the word to end the word" day. Every time I hear somebody refer to Skyler as "retard" I die a little more inside. Our-kids is a group of over 1000 people who all are people who are in one way or another in the special needs community. Most of us are parents, but there are teachers, doctors, therapists, siblings, and some are the person with the diagnosis. It is a worldwide community, but most are from the United States. We benefit from having an international membership, because it can be quite interesting to hear about viewpoints or medical procedures that are going on in other countries. Over the years, I have had faceless names become close friends, engaged in discussions about body functions you wouldn’t mention to your doctor, and gained a valuable sounding board for advice and ideas. I have grown to care about a lot of these people, and their lives as much as some of my own friend

Goodbye old friend. Hootie: 1997-2009

I'll never forget the day I first saw him. We were driving home from Golden and Kathy said "Why don't you go this way?" We headed down a street I had never been on and found ourselves driving by a little strip mall. Then Kathy says "Turn in here a minute." Now my spidey senses are on alert, and sure enough, we wind up parking in front of a pet store. Kathy had been out in Golden a couple of days before and had found Hootie sitting in a cage looking so lonely. When we walked in, there was a sad little puppy up high in his own cage, with a sign that had 2 different prices crossed out and the third was pretty low. He had been taken and then returned to the pet store. I knew right then that we were heading home with another dog, I had been suckered! I still wasn't quite over the loss of our Golden Retriever, but I never do seem to get over the loss of a pet.
